Mohamed Salah happy to sacrifice Champions League for Premier League glory

Salah happy to sacrifice UCL for Prem glory

Mohamed Salah has said that he is 'happy to sacrifice his dream' of winning the Champions League to help Liverpool lift the Premier League title.

The Reds have slipped below Manchester City into second place in the English top flight, trailing the reigning champions by a point with eight matches to go.

Liverpool also remain in Champions League contention, meanwhile, with their last-16 tie against Bayern Munich finely poised following a goalless first leg at Anfield.

Ahead of the return meeting with Bayern on Wednesday evening, Salah admits that he is fully aware of the importance of ending Liverpool's near-three-decade wait for top-flight silverware, even if it comes at the expense of realising his own European dream.

"I will be honest with you, the most prestigious competition for me is the Champions League," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "But the dream for the entire city and the club is the league.

"So, I am happy to sacrifice my dream for their dream but if we win both that would great and this is what we are trying to do.

"The [Premier League] is very tough and we have difficult games left as do they. All you can do is win your games and hopefully they will fail in one so we can win the title.

"My mind is sharp and there is pressure but I am strong mentally and we just have to keep going. We will see what we can do at the end of the season but mentally I am ready for everything."

Liverpool's next league game is a trip to strugglers Fulham on Sunday afternoon.
