Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Manchester City could line up for Sunday's Premier League clash with Liverpool.

Manchester City striker Erling Braut Haaland is set to return to the starting lineup for Sunday's Premier League contest with Liverpool at Anfield.

The 22-year-old was handed a rest against Copenhagen in the Champions League, with Pep Guardiola admitting that he failed to recover well after last weekend's 4-0 win over Southampton.

Haaland will be back at the tip of the attack over Julian Alvarez here, but the game comes too soon for the trio of John Stones, Kyle Walker and Kalvin Phillips.

Aymeric Laporte is yet to start a Premier League game this term, and Guardiola may continue to urge caution over the Spain international as Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji pair up at the back.

Nathan Ake could be tasked with keeping Mohamed Salah quiet if that is the case, with Joao Cancelo starting on the right-hand side of the backline.

Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne's spots in the engine room are safe as ever, but Ilkay Gundogan is at risk of losing his place to the well-rested Bernardo Silva.

Gundogan and Silva could both start if Jack Grealish is demoted, but the former will most likely take up a spot on the bench as Grealish holds his spot in the first XI.

Phil Foden is primed to come back in for Riyad Mahrez on the right flank, as 15-goal Haaland aims to break Luis Suarez's record of 16 strikes in a 10-game stretch in the Premier League.

Man City possible starting lineup: Ederson; Cancelo, Akanji, Dias, Ake; Silva, Rodri, De Bruyne; Foden, Haaland, Grealish
