UEFA confirms Mamadou Sakho free to play following 30-day suspension

UEFA confirms that Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho is free to play after serving a 30-day suspension for an anti-doping violation.

UEFA has confirmed that Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho is free to play after his 30-day provisional suspension came to an end.

The France international was banned by the European governing body in April after testing positive for an illegal substance, believed to be a fat burner.

UEFA has been investigating the violation ever since, but there are reports in France that all charges against Sakho will be dropped.

The governing body has not yet confirmed whether the defender will face further punishment, but it has stated that he is no longer suspended.

"The 30-day provisional suspension ends today," said UEFA. "The chairman of the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body decided not to extend it. The player would thus be free to play as from tomorrow. A decision on the case will be made within the next few days."

Sakho, who tested positive after Liverpool's Europa League last-16 tie against Manchester United, could play at Euro 2016 if he is not hit with further punishment.
