Rodgers: 'Securing Suarez future was crucial'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that striker Luis Suarez can fulfil his potential at Anfield.

Suarez had expressed a desire to leave the club during the summer, but after he committed his long-term future to the Merseyside outfit, Rodgers believes that the Reds can achieve their ambitions over the upcoming campaigns.

The 40-year-old told the club's official website: "Luis is a world-class talent and securing his services is crucial for what we are trying to achieve here.

"What's most important and most exciting is that, at the age of 26, his best years are still ahead of him and we now know that we'll be seeing him reach that potential in a Liverpool shirt."

Suarez has scored 17 Premier League goals this season to help Liverpool up to second position in the league table.
