Liverpool talks with Jurgen Klopp 'progressing well'

A report claims that Liverpool have opened up talks with Jurgen Klopp over replacing Brendan Rodgers at Anfield, with negotiations said to be progressing well.

Liverpool have reportedly already begun negotiations with Jurgen Klopp's representatives over the vacant managerial position at Anfield.

The Reds are on the search for a new boss after parting company with Brendan Rodgers on Sunday evening.

Eccentric German coach Klopp, who departed Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season following seven years at the club, was instantly installed as favourite to take over.

Many have backed the 48-year-old to take the Anfield reigns, including former players Jamie Carragher, Jamie Redknapp and Michael Owen, with widespread reports suggesting that talks were due to get underway later this week.

However, according to BBC Sport, Liverpool have already put the wheels in motion to land Klopp and negotiations are said to be progressing well.

It is claimed that the ex-Mainz 05 boss is open to the idea of managing a team in the Premier League, and Reds chiefs hope to have a deal in place well before the meeting with Tottenham Hotspur on October 17.

Carlo Ancelotti is also among those to have been linked with the position, while Carragher and Steven Gerrard are said to be among the other contenders.
