Swansea manager Garry Monk "surprised" at Liverpool's Brendan Rodgers sacking

Swansea City manager Garry Monk admits his surprise and disappointment at Liverpool's sacking of his former coach Brendan Rodgers, who led the Swans to promotion in 2011.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has expressed his surprise and disappointment at Liverpool's sacking of Brendan Rodgers.

The former Swans manager - who led the side to promotion from the Championship in 2011 - was relieved of his duties at Anfield earlier today after three years in charge of the club, and former Swansea captain Monk believes there is not a better man for the job than his former coach.

"I am surprised at the decision and I cannot believe it," Monk is quoted as saying by Wales Today. "It is a very harsh decision and he did not deserve that at all.

"He is a top manager. You do not know what happens behind closed doors but I am really shocked. I will try and speak to him because you never like to see things like that.

"He did a great job here at Swansea, he was fantastic for us and I am not sure who would do a better job at Liverpool."

Liverpool are currently 10th in the Premier League table, with 12 points from their opening eight matches.
