Report: Liverpool interested in hiring ex-Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen

Liverpool line up Rene Meulensteen, Pako Ayestaran and Sami Hyypia as they continue to search for a new assistant manager.

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen is reportedly under consideration to become Brendan Rodgers's new assistant manager at Liverpool.

The Dutchman left Old Trafford when David Moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, and he went on to have an unsuccessful spell in charge of Fulham last year.

However, the 51-year-old remains a well-respected coach and The Telegraph reports that Rodgers is eyeing him up to replace Colin Pascoe, who was sacked last week.

Pako Ayestaran is also reportedly on the list, as well as former club captain Sami Hyypia.

Meulensteen also had a stint in charge of Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.
