Adam Lallana 'regrets' the way he left Southampton for Liverpool

Adam Lallana admits that he 'regrets' the manner in which he left Southampton for Liverpool last summer.

Adam Lallana has admitted that he has 'regrets' over how he left Southampton for Liverpool last summer.

The England international was rumoured to have given the Saints an ultimatum when he decided to seal a £25m switch to Anfield, but he denies those reports.

This Sunday, Lallana could come face to face with his former club as Liverpool travel to the coast to play Ronald Koeman's side in the Premier League.

"I'm not stupid enough to think the way I left didn't leave a sour taste in a few people's mouths," Lallana told BBC Radio Solent. "The way I left I regret, I regret bits and pieces of how it happened and it got nasty. It was sad the way it happened.

"Deep down I hope Saints fans appreciate the times we had at the club together. Football is a fickle game - if I do get the jeers and the boos I'm just going to take it as them missing me playing down there because I miss Southampton. I miss the fans and I miss the good times we had down there. Of course I do."

Fourth-placed Southampton are currently four points above Liverpool in the league table.
