Adam Lallana: 'Nathaniel Clyne is a massive signing for Liverpool'

Adam Lallana says that Nathaniel Clyne is a "massive signing" for Liverpool and reveals that he helped convince him to move to Anfield from Southampton.

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has said that clinching the signature of Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton is a "great coup" for the Premier League outfit.

The England international signed a long-term deal at Anfield on Wednesday after a reported £12.5m fee was agreed.

Lallana, who played alongside Clyne at St Mary's for two years, helped convince the right-back to join the Reds.

"It's a massive signing for us," Lallana told the club's official website. "I played with him for a couple of seasons at Southampton and since they signed him, he's come on a lot.

"To manage to persuade him to sign for Liverpool, as I'm sure there would have been other top clubs, and even European clubs interested in him, is a great coup for us.

"Liverpool explains itself. The whole world knows about Liverpool. I just said to him that I hoped the deal would get done as it'll be a great place for him to improve even more, especially under Brendan Rodgers's guidance."

Clyne has become Liverpool's sixth signing of the summer following the arrivals of James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino.
