Jurgen Klopp plays down Adam Lallana reaction

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp condemns Adam Lallana's reaction that saw him sent off in an Under-23 match, but insists that he "understands" why the midfielder saw red.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he "understands" Adam Lallana's angry reaction which saw him sent off in an Under-23 game against Tottenham Hotspur this week.

Lallana grabbed the neck of Spurs midfielder George Marsh from behind following a challenge from the Tottenham youngster, and was immediately shown a straight red card by the referee.

The ban will not apply to senior matches, though, and Klopp is confident that the incident will soon be forgotten about despite acknowledging that it was a bad reaction.

"It is not the most lucky season and of course there is a kind of frustration in him," Klopp told reporters.

"There is nothing good to say about the reaction but as a former footballer when I saw the other challenge then to be honest I understand a little bit.

"It is not to excuse it but, when we played football, we all did things we were not proud of and as long as no-one is seriously injured afterwards after a few days no-one will speak about it again."

Lallana has been limited to just one Premier League start and seven appearances across all competitions this season due to injury.
