Liverpool have confirmed that defender Martin Kelly will be out of action for a number of months with a rupture to the cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The 22-year-old suffered the injury during his side's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United yesterday afternoon.

He will now undergo reconstruction surgery, with the club expecting his recovery to take "a significant period of time".

Earlier today Kelly described the injury has the "worst" that he has suffered.
