John Barnes: 'With the right service, Christian Benteke will be a handful'

John Barnes believes that Christian Benteke will be a "handful" if he gets the right service at Liverpool.

Former Liverpool star John Barnes has insisted that Christian Benteke will be a "handful" for defenders if he is given the right service at Anfield.

Last month, the Belgian international signed for the Reds from Aston Villa in a £32.5m deal.

The 24-year-old made his competitive debut on Sunday, but he failed to strike as Philippe Coutinho scored the only goal in a victory over Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.

"If Liverpool give him the right service, he'll be a handful," Barnes told talkSPORT. "It may not have happened for him against Stoke, but it's just one game.

"We know the qualities Benteke has and once the season goes on and the more he can get to know his new teammates, he'll be fine."

Benteke could start his first game at Anfield when Liverpool take on Bournemouth next Monday.
