Unseen documents relating to the Hillsborough disaster will be released to the public today after being viewed by the families of the lives that were lost over 23 years ago.
Ninety-six Liverpool fans were crushed to death at Sheffield Wednesday's home ground in 1989 during an FA Cup semi-final clash between the Merseyside club and Nottingham Forest.
Bereaved families began their search for answers after an initial inquest refused to consider evidence after 3.15pm, which the Coroner claimed was the time when the supporters sustained life-threatening injuries.
Following the disaster, the South Yorkshire police cast blame on the fans by insisting that some were drunk and that others did not even have tickets. However, an official report by Lord Justice Taylor condemned the actions of the police, claiming that more could have been done to prevent the crush from happening.
A statement will be read out from Westminster at midday and the independent panel will carry out a press conference shortly afterwards at Liverpool Cathedral.
Prime Minister David Cameron is also expected to issue an apology from the House of Commons.
