Liverpool's Steven Gerrard: 'We'll be fit and sharp to face Southampton'

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is confident that he and his teammates will be sharp and ready to face Southampton in their Premier League opener on August 17.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has insisted that he and his teammates will be ready to take on Southampton on August 17 following their pre-season tour of the United States.

The Merseyside outfit recorded three victories and two defeats, one of which was a 3-1 loss to Manchester United, during their time in Boston, Chicago, New York, Charlotte and Miami.

Liverpool, who have made five signings so far this summer, faced Roma, Olympiacos, Manchester City and AC Milan in the US to build up their fitness ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

"The games we have played have been against high calibre opposition and have been a good test for the team," Gerrard told the club's official website. "For the World Cup lads, we've only been back now maybe 14 or 15 days and we are starting to feel a little bit better.

"The other lads are obviously a little bit ahead of us, but in a couple of weeks' time we will all be up to speed and ready to get three points against Southampton."

Liverpool's next friendly will be at Anfield on August 10 against Borussia Dortmund.
