Steven Gerrard ruled out for England

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will miss England's friendlies against Spain and Sweden later this month, the Merseyside club have confirmed.

The 31-year-old has undergone treatment to clear up an infection in his right ankle and is currently in plaster cast.

The Reds have also revealed that he will miss their upcoming Premier League fixture against Swansea City.

No return date has been provided for the midfielder, who has already missed a large part of this season with a groin injury.
