Steven Gerrard keen to manage Liverpool one day

Legendary Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard hopes to swap the pitch for the dugout at Anfield in the future.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has expressed an interest in managing the club at some point in the future.

The 34-year-old will call time on his legendary spell at Anfield in the summer as he prepares for a stint with MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy.

Gerrard, who initially joined the Reds' youth team at the age of eight, says that returning to the club one day represents a lifelong dream of his.

"It has always been a dream of mine [managing Liverpool]," he told ITV Sport. "First and foremost you have to be good enough.

"It is not just about saying you want to be it, you have to go out and prove yourself. It is a long way away, I am just focused on playing for now."

Gerrard has inspired the Merseysiders to two FA Cups, three League Cups, one Champions League title and one UEFA Cup during his 17-year stint in the first team.
