Steven Gerrard: 'Arsenal win can transform Liverpool's season'

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard earmarks victory over Arsenal to provide a watershed moment in the Reds' disappointing season.

Steven Gerrard has rallied his Liverpool teammates to prove their worth by beating Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday.

The Reds have endured a testing campaign as last season's runners-up sit 11th in the Premier League table and bowed out at the group stages of the Champions League.

After losing 3-0 to Manchester United last week, Brendan Rodgers's side responded well by beating Bournemouth 3-1 to move into the semi-final of the League Cup.

Consequently, Gerrard says that Wednesday's win at Dean Court is evidence that the free-scoring Liverpool of last season are still very much alive.

"We made mistakes against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday and we got punished by world-class players," he told the Daily Mail. "The first half against Bournemouth was probably as close as we've come to last season's standards.

"It's been tough to perform of late because we haven't played well as a team, but if we keep giving everything we've got then I'm sure the good days are not too far away.

"If we can get a big result against Arsenal and build on this, then I think we can turn it around."

The Merseysiders ran out 5-1 winners the last time they hosted the Gunners at Anfield.
