Steven Gerrard: 'I would pick Jamie Carragher, Xabi Alonso as assistant manager'

Gerrard admits Liverpool management dream

Steven Gerrard has said that he would "love" to have Jamie Carragher or Xabi Alonso as his assistant manager were he to one day take the reins at Liverpool.

The 35-year-old only left the Reds in the summer, but has admitted that he has already fantasised about a return to Anfield in the dugout.

He told the Daily Mail: "I sometimes allow my mind to wander and think, 'Wouldn't it be amazing to manage Liverpool one day?'

"If, totally hypothetically, I was going to become Liverpool manager one day I know who I'd love to have as my assistant: Xabi Alonso or Jamie Carragher.

"They are very intelligent, have a deep knowledge of football and are special men. If I had smart people around me, and the right coaching team behind me, I like to think I could succeed as a manager."

Gerrard ended a 27-year affiliation with Liverpool to move to LA Galaxy in the summer.
