Roberto Firmino: 'Phillippe Coutinho influenced decision to join Liverpool'

New Liverpool signing Roberto Firmino reveals that Phillippe Coutinho helped influence his decision to join the Anfield club.

New Liverpool signing Roberto Firmino has said that Phillippe Coutinho helped to influence his decision to join the club.

The Brazil international attackers played together for their country during this year's Copa America tournament in Chile, and Firmino has revealed how Coutinho spoke of "great things" about life at Anfield.

"He was very helpful although it was ultimately my decision. I wanted to know more about how it works here and he had some very good things to tell me. He's a great character and I hope we can nurture our friendship at Liverpool," he told the official Liverpool website.

"He showed me his personal qualities during our time together at the Selecao. I'm expecting us to be two fighters on the pitch battling together for the best for Liverpool, hoping that it will bring us the victories."

Firmino, 23, joined Liverpool from Schalke 04earlier this month in a £29m deal, making him the club's third most expensive signing behind former striker Andy Carroll and fellow new recruit Christian Benteke.
