Philippe Coutinho targeting trophies this season

Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho claims that his team have the credentials to win at least one trophy this season.

Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho has claimed that his team are "in a very good position" to win trophies this season despite their indifferent form in the Premier League.

The Reds are still active in both the League Cup and Europa League, but they are currently ninth in the Premier League table, some 14 points off leaders Leicester City.

Coutinho, however, has said that the Merseyside outfit are confident of enjoying success in every competition that they are in.

"Now I hope to be able to help the team win trophies, it's very important to keep battling. We're in a very good position," Coutinho is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"It's the goal of everyone involved, we're all focused on fighting for the trophies and I think we have a great chance in the competitions we're in this year. We're going to fight for that and I hope we win a trophy this year."

Liverpool will welcome league leaders Leicester to Anfield on Boxing Day.
