Jamie Carragher to shun penalty chance

Carragher to shun penalty chance

Jamie Carragher has insisted that he will turn down the chance to take a penalty in his final game for Liverpool against Queens Park Rangers on Sunday.

The veteran defender brings an end to his 23-year career with the Reds at Anfield this weekend following his retirement announcement in January.

However, the 35-year-old claims that he will pass up the opportunity to score what would be his sixth goal in 737 appearances for the club.

"No chance. I wouldn't take it," Carragher told The Telegraph. "Imagine missing that and going for a pint after the game and they'd say you missed a penalty in your last game?

"I'm not really big for that. I'm not the type of person who likes the attention. I just don't want it to overshadow the game. I just want this to go well and if it doesn't it'll annoy me."

Carragher's last goal for Liverpool came during a 2-1 win over Middlesbrough in 2008.
