Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that the Reds are in contention for the Premier League title this season.
The North-West outfit's 3-0 away win over Southampton on Saturday pushed the club to second in the table, four points behind leaders Chelsea.
"It's obvious to see how far away they are from the top now, they're right in there," Carragher told TalkSPORT. "It's not just that, it's the way they're playing. You looked at that game and that's one of the games where you thought Liverpool could drop points.
"It's a difficult place to go. I think City and Arsenal drew there, but to go there and win so emphatically was a major statement to everyone."
Manchester City have dropped to fourth, but the former English champions have two games in hand on Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.
