Aldridge backs Ings to impress

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has backed Danny Ings to thrive at the club.

The 22-year-old forward is due to join the Reds from Burnley on a free transfer at the end of the month after agreeing personal terms at Anfield.

Aldridge believes that the youngster is a shrewd piece of business by manager Brendan Rodgers and will only improve the team next season.

"For me it's a no-brainer," he is quoted as saying by The Mirror. "He's a young lad who's scored 11 goals for Burnley this season and they've been struggling badly for points and goals.

"He's on the verge of breaking through into the England side at 23 years of age. He's one who has great potential. He's a goalscorer. He knows where the net is, his movement's good, he's quick and he can finish. He's a player who will only get better."

Ings has been included in the England Under-21 squad for this summer's European Championships in the Czech Republic.
