Liverpool re-opened a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table courtesy of a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in Sunday afternoon's clash at Anfield.

Harry Kane sent Spurs ahead inside the first minute of the contest, but Jordan Henderson levelled the scores early in the second half before a Mohamed Salah penalty secured all the points for the hosts.

Good afternoon and welcome to Sports Mole's live text coverage of the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur from Anfield. It is the first meeting between the two teams since the 2019 Champions League final - can Tottenham halt Liverpool here, or will the Reds go six points clear at the summit once again. Stay tuned for the action!

TEAMS!

LIVERPOOL: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Henderson; Mane, Firmino, Salah

TOTTENHAM: Gazzaniga; Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Rose; Winks, Sissoko; Son, Eriksen, Alli; Kane

Liverpool's team shows two changes from the one that started against Manchester United last weekend, with Dejan Lovren coming in for the injured Joel Matip and Mohamed Salah replacing Divock Origi. It is the same midfield that featured against Old Trafford, meaning that the likes of Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all on the bench.

As for Tottenham, Hugo Lloris again misses out through injury but Pochettino otherwise has a strong squad available. There are four changes from the side that started against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League with Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld, Harry Winks and Christian Eriksen coming in. Spurs also have a strong bench this afternoon with the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Lucas Moura and Tanguy Ndombele all in reserve.

Liverpool dropped their first league points of the season at Manchester United last weekend but still have a three-point lead over second-placed Manchester City with a game in hand. Tottenham, meanwhile, sit 10th following an underwhelming start to the season, although Mauricio Pochettino's side could move as high as fifth should they manage to collect all three points here.

KICKOFF:  Tottenham kick things off at Anfield...

... no rain in Liverpool for the time being, the conditions are absolutely perfect with a little chill in the air. The home side almost have a half-chance early on as Mane looks to break into the Tottenham box, but Sanchez just about does enough to make the challenge.

GOAL!  LIVERPOOL 0-1 TOTTENHAM (KANE)

GOAL!  Oh my goodness me! Tottenham take the lead inside the first minute as Kane heads home from close range after Son's strike had been deflected onto the post. The VAR check has finished and the visitors have taken an incredible 1-0 lead inside 60 seconds.

Some turn-up here! Anfield has been utterly shocked by that early header from Kane.

Good spell of possession for Tottenham at the moment as they settle into the match. Liverpool are still shell-shocked and have not really had control of the ball thus far here.

Not much to report in terms of attacking football since the early breakthrough, but there are signs that Liverpool are starting to get to grips with their challenge this afternoon.

Possession football for Liverpool at the moment but not too much is happening. Tottenham are comfortable sitting deep while the home side look to pass and probe.

Manchester United caused Liverpool a lot of problems at Old Trafford last weekend, and Tottenham have done the same in the first 11 minutes of this match. Alexander-Arnold delivers another dangerous cross from the right, but Sanchez makes a strong headed clearance.

Kane's early header is the difference between the two teams here...

Liverpool continue to pass and probe, but Tottenham are more than happy to sit deep and defend as the space is so limited. The home side's two full-backs have been unable to get into the match in the first 14 minutes, but there is an awful long way to go here.

Smart work from the Tottenham goalkeeper to collect a low cross from Robertson after Liverpool had managed to find a bit of space in the final third - better from the hosts.

Robertson looks to pick out Salah with a deep cross from the left, but the Egypt international just cannot make contact under pressure from Rose, who does well.

Liverpool are starting to have some joy down the left through Robertson as Eriksen does not really want to come back and help out Aurier, who can be a touch rash.

The volume inside Anfield goes up as Liverpool win another corner, but Alli does well to make the clearance at the near post, and the home side cannot threaten in the second phrase of play as Sanchez does well to clear. Still 1-0 to the visitors with 20 minutes played.

CLOSE!  Mane heads a corner over the crossbar as Liverpool have a half-chance.

SAVE!  Comfortable save from the Tottenham goalkeeper to keep out a strike from Salah, who had met a flick from Mane. Liverpool are on the front foot at the moment here.

Tottenham break clear on the counter-attack after a wonderful touch from Kane, but Son cannot make the most of having the ball in a dangerous position. It remains 1-0 Spurs.

CHANCE!  Huge chance for Tottenham as Kane breaks into a dangerous position before delivering a cross towards Alli, but the former MK Dons youngster just cannot make contact. The move stays alive, though, and Eriksen sends a low effort just wide moments later.

Tottenham are seriously dangerous on the counter-attack here, and it would not be a surprise to see the visitors score a second despite Liverpool dominating the ball here.

SAVE!  Two wonderful saves from the Tottenham goalkeeper as he keeps out a strike from Salah before denying Firmino from close range. Excellent from the Argentine!

Tottenham are struggling to get out of their own half at the moment as the pressure continues. Liverpool win another free kick in a dangerous position, but Sanchez deals with the deliver from Alexander-Arnold. Little over 15 minutes of the second half remaining here.

SAVE!  Another wonderful save from the Spurs goalkeeper to keep out a close-range header from Van Dijk, who had broken free inside the box. Excellent stuff there!

SAVE!  Another save from Gazzaniga to keep out a strike from Alexander-Arnold!

CHANCE!  Mane now heads a cross from Alexander-Arnold wide of the post as Tottenham somehow stay in the lead with 31 minutes on the clock at Anfield.

Not entirely sure how Tottenham are still winning this match but that is indeed the case with 33 minutes on the clock. The pressure from Liverpool is absolutely unreal here.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Arsenal are 2-1 ahead at home to Crystal Palace while United are leading 2-0 at Norwich. Little over 10 minutes of the first half remaining here.

YELLOW CARD!  Sissoko (Tottenham) is booked for pushing Robertson.

Alexander-Arnold's latest free kick is cleared by Tottenham but the pressure is still very much on Pochettino's side, who lead courtesy of a very early header from Kane.

YELLOW CARD!  Rose (Tottenham) is booked for a foul on Henderson.

Rose and Sissoko now on yellow cards for Tottenham, none for Liverpool in the first 40 minutes of this match. Liverpool deliver the latest free kick into the box and Lovren actually has a header from close range, only for Gazzaniga to make the save.

Nothing much from Alli, Son or Eriksen going forward at the moment, but Sissoko and Winks are getting through a lot of work in the middle of the park. Liverpool continue to pass and probe in the final third as the first period reaches its latter stages at 1-0.

Liverpool have a free kick in a very dangerous area as Mane is felled by Winks...

... Alexander-Arnold sends his effort straight into the Tottenham wall.

Rose does well to clear a free kick from Alexander-Arnold as the pressure continues in the final stages of the first period. Can Tottenham make it to the half-time break?

United have now missed two penalties against Norwich but lead 2-0. It remains to be seen whether the missed spot kicks come back to haunt them. Arsenal, meanwhile, are still 2-1 ahead at home to Crystal Palace. All three matches kicked off at the same time.

We are into the second of three additional minutes at the end of the first period, Liverpool remain on the front foot but it does appear that Tottenham will get to the break with their lead in tact. It has been some half of football at Anfield here.

Tottenham are almost there in terms of getting through the first half without conceding, surely Pochettino's side will be better in the second period, which is bad news for Liverpool.

HALF TIME:  LIVERPOOL 0-1 TOTTENHAM

So there we have it - the referee brings the first period to a close with Tottenham leading 1-0 at Anfield courtesy of an early header from Kane. Liverpool have had a whole host of chances to level the scores but have been unable to beat Gazzaniga.

STATISTICS! Liverpool dominated the first-half possession with 76%, while they managed 10 attempts, five of which were on target. Tottenham only had one target in the first half but that was Kane's goal. Two yellow cards to report in the first 45 minutes with Sissoko and Rose both in the book. What will the second half of this fascinating contest bring?

BENCH WATCH! Tottenham have a strong bench this afternoon with the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Lucas Moura and Tanguy Ndombele all available for Pochettino. Liverpool, meanwhile, have options in the shape of Naby Keita, Adam Lallana, James Milner, Divock Origi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. There is plenty of quality on both benches at Anfield this afternoon.

HALF-TIME UPDATE! Elsewhere in the Premier League, Arsenal lead Palace 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium while Man United are 2-0 ahead at Norwich. Solskjaer's side actually missed two penalties in the first half at Carrow Road but still lead by two goals.

KICKOFF:  Liverpool resume the action here...

... no changes from either side at the break, which is not too much of a surprise. However, both managers will surely have alterations in mind as the second half develops.

SAVE!  Another super save from the Tottenham goalkeeper to keep out a close-range header from Firmino. Gazzaniga then keeps out a weak header from Lovren moments later.

OFF THE BAR!  Oh my word! Son now hits the crossbar for Tottenham after breaking into the Liverpool box! Huge moment in this match, Son had just taken the ball a touch too wide.

The next goal here - if there indeed is one - will be huge. At 2-0, Tottenham would have something serious to send, but a goal for Liverpool and they would be huge favourites to go on and collect all three points. The second half has started at a fast pace.

You just cannot take your eyes off this one at the moment as Kane attempts to race past Lovren before being brought to the ground. Plenty happening at both ends of the field.

YELLOW CARD!  Lovren (Liverpool) is booked for that challenge on Kane.

Lovren, this time, does well under pressure from Kane to head back towards his own goalkeeper. This is a terrific match by the way, the entertainment value has been wonderful.

GOAL!  LIVERPOOL 1-1 TOTTENHAM (HENDERSON)

GOAL!  Liverpool level the scores in the 52nd minute as Henderson manages to squeeze the ball into the bottom corner from a wide angle after a dangerous cross into the box!

Liverpool must be the favourites to go on and win this match now. The pressure from the home side has been intense and Tottenham just cannot get out here.

SAVE!  Comfortable save from the Tottenham goalkeeper to keep out an effort from Salah, who connected on the volley. Still a solid 35-40 minutes of football to play in this game.

Palace have equalised at the Emirates Stadium while United are still 2-0 up at Norwich. What an afternoon of Premier League football and there is still much more to come.

SAVE!  Gazzaniga manages to keep out a close-range effort from Firmino after the Brazil international breaks clear. Liverpool are surely going to score a second here.

We are just about entering the stage of the match where both managers will be thinking about alterations. As mentioned at the break, there are some seriously talented players on both benches, and it is the type of game that could be won from the bench.

SAVE!  Robertson flashes another cross into the penalty box but Spurs just about manage to clear. The pressure is relentless as Gazzaniga then keeps out a Wijnaldum header.

CHANCE!  Fresh-air shot from Salah as the Liverpool attacker attempts to meet a chip from Henderson. Surely Pochettino has to look at changing something in this match.

As it stands, Liverpool would be four points ahead of Man City on the same number of matches, it is a lead, but City would absolutely love a 1-1 here, no question about that.

TOTTENHAM SUB! Ndombele for Winks is Tottenham's first change.

YELLOW CARD!  Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) is booked for a foul on Kane.

Little over 20 minutes of the second half remaining, and the pressure remains relentless from the home team, who desperately want to open up a six-point lead at the top of the table once again. Just a reminder that Liverpool and Man City lock horns early net month.

SAVE!  Gazzaniga is on hand to keep out another attempt from Salah.

Little over 20 minutes of the second period remaining, and the score is still 1-1 at Anfield. You do get the feeling that there is another goal in this match as Liverpool are absolutely intent on scoring a second. Could Tottenham nick one on the counter?

CLOSE!  Salah misses the post with a strike from outside the box.

Son clips one into the side-netting after Aurier had broken free and delivered into a dangerous area. Can Tottenham create more half-chances in the latter stages here?

YELLOW CARD!  Ndombele (Tottenham) is booked for a pull on Fabinho.

PENALTY!  Liverpool have a penalty as Mane goes down inside the box under a challenge from Aurier. The defender appeared to kick the back of Mane's leg there.

GOAL!  LIVERPOOL 2-1 TOTTENHAM (SALAH, PEN)

GOAL!  Salah smashes his penalty past Gazzaniga to send Liverpool 2-1 ahead here.

LIVERPOOL SUB! Wijnaldum is replaced by Milner for the home side.

Little bit of pressure from Tottenham wins a corner, but the set piece is poor and Van Dijk is on hand to make the clearance. Little over 10 minutes of football remaining here.

Much better from Spurs in the last couple of minutes, and there is still more than enough time for the visitors to cause a stir here. Liverpool are now the ones just dropping a touch deeper, which is not a surprise after taking the lead here.

TOTTENHAM SUB! Lucas replaces Aurier for the away side.

Salah looks to have picked up another injury here as he shakes his head.

LIVERPOOL SUB! Salah is replaced by Joe Gomez for the home side.

Bit of pressure from Tottenham at the moment as they look to force a late leveller which would be very popular in Manchester, but Alisson is comfortable between the sticks for now.

TOTTENHAM SUB! Lo Celso replaces Eriksen for the away side.

CHANCE!  Huge chance for Rose to score for Spurs as the defender breaks into the Liverpool box before striking towards goal, but the ball flies over the crossbar!

We are into the first of four additional minutes at Anfield.

YELLOW CARD!  Milner (Liverpool) is booked for a poor challenge on Lucas Moura.

Not too much to report in the last few minutes with Liverpool closing in on a huge three points. Tottenham cannot really have an argument to be brutally honest.

SAVE!  Decent save from Alisson to keep out a strike from Son.

LIVERPOOL SUB! Origi replaces Firmino for the home side.

Seconds left at Anfield. Liverpool are going six clear again.

SAVE!  Alisson keeps out a header from Alderweireld. Last chance.

FULL TIME:  LIVERPOOL 2-1 TOTTENHAM

So there we have it - the referee brings the second period to a close with Liverpool coming from behind to beat Spurs at Anfield. The Reds have gone six points clear at the top of the table once again while Tottenham drop to 11th with their fourth defeat of the season.

That is just about it from me tonight, but I shall leave you with the match report from another Liverpool win. Thanks for joining Sports Mole once again!
