Liverpool lineup vs. Tottenham: Predicted XI for EFL Cup fixture as Andoni Iraola ponders Cody Gakpo decision

Liverpool are likely to start Cody Gakpo in place of Alexander Isak on Tuesday, when they take on Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup.

The Reds' style of play is intense, and there have always been question marks regarding Isak's fitness, so it would be risky for Andoni Iraola to start him up front once again.

Gakpo may be used as a striker ahead of a relatively inexperienced supporting cast, featuring Rio Ngumoha and Victor Munoz on the wings.

Lewis Koumas is an option to play as a number 10, while Trey Nyoni is likely to start in a double pivot for the first time this campaign.

The latter could be paired with Alexis Mac Allister, especially as Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have disappointed.

Defender Giovanni Leoni is still injured, and though he could return after the international break, expect to see midfielder Wataru Endo fill in at the back.

Ronald Araujo has been used as a right-back this term, but he may instead be used in the middle next to Endo in order to allow Virgil van Dijk and Jeremy Jacquet to be rested.

Kostas Tsimikas is a candidate to start as a left-back, while Jeremie Frimpong could be used on the right side of defence, while goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to make his first appearance of the season.
