Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reveals that Calvin Ramsay is currently not training with the squad due to a "little injury".

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Calvin Ramsay is currently not training with the team due to a "little injury".

The 18-year-old represents one of three new acquisitions for the Reds in the summer window after arriving from Aberdeen for a £4.4m fee.

Liverpool are in the swing of pre-season training and will kick off their summer of exhibition matches with a clash against bitter rivals Manchester United in Bangkok on Wednesday.

However, Ramsay is highly unlikely to be involved in that opening contest due to injury, but Klopp has insisted that he has only heard good things about the right-back so far.

"Unfortunately, Calvin is now not training with us in the moment, he has a little injury. Nobody knew, we found it when he did his medical check. Until today he has no problems," Klopp told liverpoolfc.com.

"But the medical department tells us if we don't take care of that now, he will have a problem in the future. So, when you are that young then of course he has a long career ahead of him, so we are very responsible in these moments.

"So he didn't train yet with the team but is doing a lot of fitness work. So, it will not take too long I think. So I didn't see him yet in training but everything we saw about him, we heard about him, I heard from him: a fantastic boy.

"What a player he is, what he did for Aberdeen last year, absolutely exceptional. In his age group and you know the things we need from a full-back, he is as close as it gets to the things we want and is still a kid. So we really expect a lot from him in the long term."

Ramsay arrived at Liverpool after a stellar breakthrough season at Pittodrie, during which he found the back of the once and set up nine more goals in 31 appearances.

Ramsay's exploits earned him the 2021-22 Scottish Football Writers' Association's Young Player of the Year award, and he has signed a contract at Liverpool until 2027.

With the Scotland Under-21 international arriving to act as Trent Alexander-Arnold's understudy, the door is open for Neco Williams to leave the club in the coming weeks.

Nottingham Forest are now understood to have agreed a fee of £17m to sign the Wales international, who helped Fulham achieve promotion to the Premier League last season.

Williams would therefore follow the likes of Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi and Loris Karius out of the exit door at Anfield this summer, while Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez have arrived alongside Ramsay.

Klopp's side will do battle with Crystal Palace, RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and Strasbourg later this month before the start of their Premier League campaign against Fulham on August 6.
