Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that Ibrahima Konate has avoided a serious injury after coming off in Sunday's 3-0 friendly defeat to Strasbourg.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is optimistic that the injury Ibrahima Konate suffered in Sunday's pre-season defeat to Strasbourg is not a serious one.

The former RB Leipzig defender featured from the first whistle against Les Coureurs at Anfield but had to be hooked just before the hour mark due to a knock to the knee.

Konate is set to undergo a scan to determine the severity of the issue, but Klopp is hopeful that the 23-year-old's problem will not keep him sidelined for an extended period of time.

"We don't know exactly yet on Ibou, but it doesn't look too concerning, so I hope we caught it in the right moment," Klopp told liverpoolfc.com after the 3-0 defeat on Merseyside.

As expected, the Reds put out a weakened team following their Community Shield exploits, and Strasbourg posted a 3-0 success courtesy of Adrien Thomasson's double and Habib Diallo's early strike.

Midfielders Naby Keita and Curtis Jones would have expected to earn minutes in the battle with Les Coureurs, but the duo were also notable absentees from the friendly clash.

Klopp revealed after the game that Keita was ill and should therefore be fine for the weekend's Premier League opener with Fulham, but Jones is more of a doubt with a physical problem.

"Naby is ill and Curtis felt a little bit and we couldn't take any risks. All of a sudden the team was really young and we play [against] a really strong Strasbourg side.

"Naby is ill, so no [he will be fine for Fulham]. Curtis, we have to see. [There] was no impact or whatever, so that always makes it a bit, 'My god, what could it be?'

"We had no time; he felt it today and he wanted to play desperately, but then the medical department said no and that we needed to make further tests. We will do that tomorrow and then we will know more."

Liverpool are already heading into Saturday's showdown with Fulham with several players in the treatment room, as Diogo Jota, Caoimhin Kelleher and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are guaranteed to miss out.

Klopp has conceded that Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a "serious" hamstring injury in the pre-season loss to Manchester United last month, and he could now spend at least two months on the sidelines.

On a brighter note, Alisson Becker is expected to line up against Fulham as he steps up his recovery from an abdominal problem, while Kostas Tsimikas will hope to recover from a knock in time as well.
