Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Manchester City

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Thursday night's Premier League trip to face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool will take to the field as champions of England for the first time in 30 years on Thursday night when they face the team they dethroned at the Etihad Stadium.

Jurgen Klopp's side will be given a guard of honour by Manchester City when they walk out, having wrapped up the title with a record seven games to spare courtesy of City's defeat at Chelsea last Thursday.

Liverpool are now chasing down a number of records, including Man City's own 100-point mark from 2017-18, but face arguably the most difficult assignment of their season in their first game as champions.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest.

James Milner

Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: July 2 (vs. Man City)

James Milner limped off in the first half of the Merseyside derby and subsequently missed the win over Crystal Palace. Klopp confirmed that his hamstring injury is not serious, but he remains doubtful for this match.

Joel Matip

Possible return date: Unknown

Joel Matip has been ruled out for the rest of the season after picking up a toe injury in the Merseyside derby, despite initial hopes that the injury was nothing serious.

Possible return date: Unknown

Xherdan Shaqiri is slowly edging towards a comeback from a calf injury which has kept him out for the majority of the year so far, but Thursday's match could still come too soon for him.
