Half-Time Report: Harry Kane draws Tottenham Hotspur level against Liverpool

Kane cancels out Markovic opener

Harry Kane cancelled out Lazar Markovic's opener to ensure that Tottenham Hotspur headed into the break level at 1-1 with Liverpool.

Daniel Sturridge, making his first Premier League start since playing against the same opposition in August, looked lively throughout the opening 45 minutes, and only a tame effort prevented him from beating Hugo Lloris early on.

Lloris would be tested once again by the England international as he made a fine save from the forward after Jordon Ibe and Markovic had combined to create the chance.

However, the Frenchman was at fault for the opening goal as Liverpool took full advantage on the counter-attack to break the deadlock.

Moments after Ryan Mason tested Simon Mignolet with a powerful effort, Sturridge led the break before finding Markovic, whose effort somehow managed to sneak past Lloris on the way to finding the corner.

A misplaced pass from Nabil Bentaleb gifted Sturridge another opportunity, but Eric Dier recovered impressively with a vital tackle in the box.

Spurs were level in the 26th minute when Christian Eriksen combined well with Erik Lamela, who played an inch-perfect pass to allow Kane to beat Mignolet with a low strike.

Both sides were keen to get onto the front foot before the break, with Ibe testing Lloris with a fine effort at the end of an impressive run from the wing.

Ibe was involved once again as Liverpool came agonisingly close to retaking the lead through Sturridge, whose back-heel struck the post with Lloris looking helpless.
