Top 10 Liverpool strikers of the Premier League era - #4

Sports Mole's countdown of the top 10 greatest Liverpool strikers from the Premier League era continues with number four - Michael Owen.

The 'Boy Wonder' may have burst onto the world scene for England during the 1998 World Cup, but Liverpool fans were already well aware of what the teenager could do, having seen him score 18 goals in 36 league games during his first full season in the senior team.

That tally was enough to see him win the Premier League Golden Boot - an award he retained the following season - and he went on to score double figures in all seven full top-flight campaigns for Liverpool before joining Real Madrid in 2004.

Owen surprisingly never broke the 20-goal barrier in the Premier League, but his overall scoring record of 118 in 216 appearances for Liverpool is indicative of just how deadly a striker he was.

The former England international even won the Ballon d'Or in 2001 after helping Liverpool to three trophies, and the Reds then finished as runners-up in the Premier League the following campaign.

Owen remains the ninth-highest scorer in Premier League history, with the bulk of those goals coming during his time at Liverpool.
