Head-to-head record
Previous meetings: 3
Liverpool wins: 2
Draws: 0
Lille wins: 1
Liverpool and Lille have only met three times in Europe, with the first two clashes between the sides seeing the Reds progress from the Europa League round of 16 after winning 3-1 across two legs in the 2009-10 season.
Rafael Benitez was in the dugout for the Merseysiders, but his side lost the first leg 1-0 away from home on March 11, 2010 as Chelsea legend Eden Hazard scored the only goal of the game for the French side in the 85th minute.
The result was perhaps a surprise given Benitez fielded the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Jamie Carragher and Javier Mascherano from the start.
In the second leg on March 18, the Merseysiders ran out 3-0 winners thanks to a brace from Torres and a ninth-minute penalty from Gerrard.
The clubs met again in the 2024-25 league phase of the revamped Champions League, with Liverpool emerging as 2-1 victors at Anfield on January 25, 2025.
Mohamed Salah was played through on goal by Curtis Jones shortly after the half-hour mark, and the Egyptian calmly slotted home.
Lille were reduced to 10 men in the 59th minute when Aissa Mandi was sent off, but the French side managed to equalise just three minutes later.
However, Harvey Elliott restored Liverpool's lead in the 67th minute, and the hosts were never truly troubled by their opponents, and could have easily won by a bigger margin.
