Preview: Liverpool Women vs. Tottenham Hotspur Ladies - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Liverpool Women and Tottenham Hotspur Ladies, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies will look to avoid a ninth consecutive Women's Super League defeat when they travel to Prenton Park to face Liverpool Women on Sunday.

Despite losing their last two games, eighth-placed Liverpool are two points better off than their opponents, who occupy 10th position.

Liverpool made the trip to the capital to face the newly crowned League Cup winners Arsenal in midweek, and although the Reds battled valiantly, it proved to be a fruitless trip.

First-half strikes from Stina Blackstenius and Caitlin Foord condemned the Merseyside club to a 2-0 defeat, ensuring that the wait goes on for Liverpool's first away league win of the season.

With that in mind, the Reds will be thankful to return to home surroundings this weekend as they look to extend their five-point gap to the sole relegation spot.

Impressively, Liverpool have only conceded eight goals in their seven home league games - only the top four have let in fewer home goals this season.

However, the Reds will be targeting an improvement in the final third, as they are the second-lowest scorers in the top flight with 13 goals from as many WSL matches.

Tottenham are still searching for their first league victory since hammering Brighton & Hove Albion 8-0 in October.

Spurs would have been hopeful of ending their poor run of form when they took the lead against Manchester City last weekend thanks to Celin Bizet Ildhusoy's 31st-minute effort.

However, Khadija Shaw restored parity in first-half stoppage time, before she found the net on two more occasions in the second period to seal her hat-trick and condemn Tottenham to an eighth consecutive defeat in the WSL, leaving them just two points above the relegation place.

Tottenham boss Rehanne Skinner will be concerned by the fact that her side have conceded at least two goals in each of their previous five matches.

Although Spurs have experienced a poor run of form, they will have the chance to complete a league double on Sunday after claiming a narrow 1-0 victory over Liverpool when the two sides met in October.

Team News

Liverpool are still expected to be without Natasha Dowie, Niamh Fahey, Leanne Kiernan and Shanice van der Sanden.

Hip issues will prevent Melissa Lawley and Jasmine Mathews from featuring, while Rhiannon Roberts is sidelined with a concussion.

Megan Campbell, Gemma Bonner and Yana Daniels all came off the bench at half time against Arsenal, and the trio could be brought into the starting lineup on Sunday.

As for the visitors, Shelina Zadorsky and Jess Naz will miss out due to illness and injury respectively.

Injury has kept Bethany England out of the last two games, but Skinner is hopeful that the striker will be available to start against Liverpool

After serving a two-match suspension, Eveliina Summanen could feature in the Tottenham midfield on Sunday.

Liverpool Women possible starting lineup:
Laws; Koivisto, Bonner, Campbell, Hinds; Kearns, Nagano, Holland, Daniels; Humphrey, Stengel

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies possible starting lineup:
Korpela; Bizet, Turner, Bartrip, Harrop, Neville; Ayane, Summanen, Spence, Iwabuchi; England

We say: Liverpool Women 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur Ladies

Tottenham claimed a narrow 1-0 victory when the two sides met in October, but having lost their last eight league games, they will be bereft of confidence, and we think that a point might be the best the visitors can hope for.
