Lens too strong for Nice

Lens score late in both halves to climb out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 win over Nice in Ligue 1.

Lens have clinched a 2-0 win over Nice in Ligue 1 this evening, despite missing a penalty early in the second half.

The home side made the brighter start, with Ahmed Kantari and Baptiste Guillaume both forcing saves from Simon Pouplin inside the opening 10 minutes.

Nice survived the early pressure though, and came close to opening the scoring with just over half an hour played when Valentin Eysseric struck the bar with a powerful effort from the left-hand side of the box.

Lens broke the deadlock just before the break when Wylan Cyprien fired the ball into the bottom corner after Lalaina Nomenjanahary picked him out with a through-ball.

The hosts had a chance to double their lead early in the second half when Souleymane Diawara brought Cyprien down in the box, but Adamo Coulibaly blasted the ball over.

Chances remained few and far between for the majority of the second period until the home side broke free again late on, with Guillaume teeing up Coulibaly, who this time found the target.

Dario Cvitanich could have made it close late on in the final couple of minutes, but he sliced Jordan Amavi's cross well high.

The result moves Lens out of the bottom three, leaving them 16th in the table, while Nice remain 11th.
