Puel: 'Foxes disappointed by Saints draw'

Claude Puel admits that Leicester City were left "a little bit disappointed" by their goalless draw with Southampton but also praised the Foxes for their performance.

Claude Puel has admitted that Leicester City are "a little bit disappointed" following their goalless draw with Southampton.

With little for the Foxes to play for as the Premier League season nears its conclusion, the Frenchman experimented with his formation and partnerships in Thursday night's game against the Saints.

Leicester put in a stout but largely forgettable display at the King Power Stadium, while the visitors had little in response as neither side could force the issue come the final whistle.

Alongside his comments on his side's performance, Puel also gave an update on goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who was ruled out of the encounter with an ankle injury as Ben Hamer took the gloves.

"We are a little bit disappointed not to win but I'm happy with our performance," Puel told BBC Sport. "It was important to continue the momentum from the second-half against Burnley and I think we did that.

"We showed a lot of quality and had two or three good chances to score in the first-half and we played with a good tempo and intensity. If we can repeat this performance in the next game against Crystal Palace we will do well.

"Marc Albrighton started at right-back for the first time and he played with intensity. Kasper [Schmeichel] will play the next game, it was not a big injury but I'm happy with [stand-in goalkeeper] Ben Hamer's performance and he made a good save in the first half."

Leicester have collected 44 points this season, level with their points tally in the whole of 2016-17.
