Leeds United land Pontus Jansson on season-long loan

Leeds United sign Sweden international Pontus Jansson on a season-long loan from Torino - their 10th arrival of the Garry Monk era.

Leeds United boss Garry Monk has made his 10th signing of the summer by bringing in Pontus Jansson on a season-long loan from Torino.

The 25-year-old defender, who was part of Sweden's Euro 2016 squad this summer in France, agreed terms at Elland Road on Wednesday evening and is eligible to feature in Saturday's meeting with Sheffield Wednesday.

Jansson made a switch to Italian football in 2014 following five years in Malmo's first-team fold, making a total of 15 appearances for Torino in Serie A prior to his latest move.

Speaking to his new side's official website, Jansson said: "It feels really good to be here. I heard about three or four days ago that Leeds were interested and I spoke to the coaches.

"I need to play football regularly and I know that Leeds are a big club with big ambitions - they also have a lot of fans in Sweden, so I'm really happy to be here. I know the club has a lot of tradition - they won the league in 1992 and I know about the really good team with the likes of Mark Viduka and Harry Kewell.

"I'm going to learn even more in the coming days! I want to help take Leeds back to the Premier League as soon as possible. I'm an aggressive defender and I always give more than 100% for the team that I play for."

Jansson, given the number 18 shirt at Elland Road, has previously worked under United assistant Pep Clotet during his time at Malmo.
