Former Leeds United defender Andy O'Brien joins Major League Soccer

Former Leeds United defender Andy O'Brien has made the switch to Major League Soccer, signing for the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The 33-year-old joins Scottish internationals Barry Robson and Kenny Miller at the club.

O'Brien has played over 300 times in the Premier League for teams including Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers.

After Leeds terminated his contract at the end of last season the defender was left searching for a new club.

O'Brien admitted that he is delighted to extend his career in MLS. He said: "Coming to view the city and the people around, it's a welcoming place. "I'm delighted to be here and looking forward to playing a big part, hopefully, in what's been a successful season to date."

O'Brien could make his Whitecaps debut against Real Salt Lake on August 11.
