Teenage midfielder Lewis Cook pens new Leeds United contract

Promising midfielder Lewis Cook puts pen to paper on a new two-year contract with Leeds United.

Leeds United have agreed a new two-year contract with young midfielder Lewis Cook.

The 18-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year extension to his current deal, which was due to expire at the end of next season.

Leeds chairman Massimo Cellino expressed his delight at Cook signing a new deal and signalled his intentions not to sell the club's most promising youngsters this summer.

"Lewis Cook deserves his new contract, he was one of the most exciting players last season," Cellino told the club website.

"I knew we had a wonderful talent when I first saw him in the summer. At first, I thought he was much older than he was. He plays like he has lots of experience.

"My hope is for him to stay at Leeds for a long time and continue growing with [Alex] Mowatt, [Sam] Byram, [Charlie] Taylor and the others. We don't want to sell."

In his breakthrough season at Leeds, academy graduate Cook made a total of 38 appearances, including 33 starts in the Championship.
