Luke Murphy rescues point for Leeds United

Luke Murphy strikes an 86th-minute equaliser as Leeds United peg back Birmingham City at Elland Road.

Luke Murphy struck with four minutes of normal time remaining to give Leeds United a share of the spoils against Birmingham City this afternoon.

Steve Morrison had an early chance for the visitors but his 12-yard effort sailed over the bar after he had brought the ball down on his chest.

Clayton Donaldson was then fouled by Giuseppe Bellusci to give Paul Caddis the chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot.

The Birmingham midfielder made no mistake with a powerful low drive to give the away side the lead after eight minutes.

Birmingham nearly doubled their advantage when Scott Wooton met Luke Murphy's free kick, but his header bounced just wide of the post.
Steven Gleeson then went close with a 25-yard effort, but the strike was well saved by Marco Silvestri in the Leeds goal.

Mirco Antenucci managed to find a yard of space shortly before the half-hour mark, but the striker's effort was sliced wide before forcing a save from Darren Randolph moments later.

Both goalkeepers took centre stage within a few moments of each other, with Randolph making an exceptional stop from Bellusci shortly before Silvestri denied David Davis's 30-yard attempt.

Gary Rowett's side pressed for the second after the break, and Damarai Gray saw a shot saved before Donaldson headed just wide from Gleeson's cross.

With the game appearing to be edging away from the home side, it was Murphy who steered home from around 10 yards out to level the game up late on.
