Half-Time Report: Leeds United, Derby County goalless at the break

Goalless at Elland Road

Neither Leeds United nor Derby County have been able to break the deadlock in the first half of their Championship clash at Elland Road.

Following a scrappy opening 10 minutes, with wayward passes being made by both sides, Derby captain Richard Keogh launched a well-timed tackle to prevent Luke Varney from driving towards goal.

A few seconds later Keogh could have given away a penalty following a quick surge into the box from Varney.

Travelling goalkeeper Frankie Fielding made his first save of the match towards the halfway stage of the first 45 minutes following a free kick from Stephen Warnock. The former Aston Villa player drifted the ball towards the far post, but Fielding was able to punch the ball clear.

Leeds began to pick up the pace towards the final 15 minutes or so of the first half through Rodolph Austin, who guided the ball into the feet of Sam Byram after sliding past two Derby defenders.

Despite the well-placed pass, Byram was unable to latch onto the ball in time to launch an attack towards goal.

While Leeds produced some probing plays, the Whites were unable to answer the home crowd's chants of a goal, while Derby failed to find the breakthrough.
