Cristiano Ronaldo's mother 'stable' after stroke

Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that his mother is "stable and recovering in hospital" after she suffered a stroke on Tuesday morning.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner flew from Italy to his hometown of Funchal in Portugal, where his mother Dolores Aveiro was taken to the Dr. Ne'Lio Mendonca hospital in Madeira.

Ronaldo said in a post on social media: "Thank you for all your messages of support for my mum. She is currently stable and recovering in hospital.

"Me and my family would like to thank the medical team looking after her, and kindly ask that we are all given some privacy at this time."

Juventus were due to take on AC Milan in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi final on Wednesday, however the match was ultimately postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
