Robbie Neilson: Ipswich Town bid "nowhere near" Jordan McGhee value

Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson reveals that Ipswich Town's bid for defender Jordan McGhee was "nowhere near" the club's valuation of the 19-year-old.

Robbie Neilson has said that Ipswich Town's bid for Jordan McGhee was "nowhere near" the price that they would consider selling the defender for.

The Championship side reportedly offered the newly-promoted Scottish Premiership side £250,000 for the 19-year-old, who made his first-team debut in 2013.

The head coach told Sky Sports News: "They put an offer in which we believe was nowhere near his value. Jordan has a great future here. He's a big player here, he's a Scotland Under-21 international and captain.

"If he is going to go, it's going to be for a lot of money. Every player has a price. I don't want to sell him but if someone comes in with an acceptable value then we will look at it. But the offer that came in is nowhere near the value of a player of his calibre. We don't need to sell.

"In the past five or six years English clubs have taken the best talent at 16, 17, 18 and then they disappear down there. For them to be able to stay and play football, play 50-100 first-team games, then they can go down as proper professional football players and not just prospects can only benefit our game."

Hearts travel to Dundee in the league this weekend.
