Mick McCarthy: 'Leeds United win as good as any performance this season'

McCarthy hails 'best performance of season'

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has said that his side put in their best performance of the season in this afternoon's 4-1 victory over Leeds United.

McCarthy's side fell behind to Mirco Antenucci's fourth-minute strike, but responded in fine fashion with goals from Daryl Murphy [two], David McGoldrick and Cristophe Berra handing the Tractor Boys all three points.

Asked by the East Anglian Daily Times whether it was his side's best performance of the season, McCarthy said: "Yes, for a number of reasons.

"One, we had to come from one-nil down, against a team who have been playing well. Second, for scoring four goals. I thought the all-round performance was very good. So yes, it's as good as anything we've done I'd say.

"I would have to say for the last five minutes or so I did start to get cold! It was the first time for a while, that I can remember, that we weren't biting our nails. That was kind of nice."

The win keeps second-place Ipswich within one point of Championship leaders Derby County.
