Frozen pitch puts an end to Ipswich, Middlesbrough game

Ipswich Town, Middlesbrough abandoned

The Championship match between Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough has been abandoned due to a frozen pitch after just 37 minutes.

The game had been in doubt in the run up to kick-off, however referee Dean Whitestone made an inspection of the pitch at 1.45pm and deemed it suitable for play.

Once the game kicked off, it was clear that the players were struggling with the conditions. Both managers, Paul Jewell and Tony Mowbray, put pressure on the referee to put an end to the match. After 37 minutes, Whitestone finally blew the whistle and abandoned the game due to a frozen pitch.

The game will now be replayed at a later date.
