Lionel Messi has reportedly decided to extend his stay with MLS club Inter Miami.
The Argentine has entered the final six months of his current contract, which will expire at the end of the calendar year.
Messi's contract uncertainty has led to links with different clubs, including a potential move to Como in Serie A.
Como boss Cesc Fabregas appeared to open the door to a reunion with his former Barcelona teammate, before the club's president Mirwan Surwarso dismissed the possibility of a shock move.
Messi set to sign new Inter Miami deal
The speculation surrounding Messi's next steps looks set to subside, with the 38-year-old set to commit his future to his current employers.
According to journalist Xavi Campos, Messi is on the brink of signing a new three-year deal to keep him at the MLS club until 2028.
The proposed contract would see the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner continue his career past his 41st birthday.
This alleged deal will also contain options for Messi and Inter Miami to review on a year-by-year basis, meaning that there is a possibility to cut the contract short before 2028.
Messi's reported decision offers an indication that he plans to represent Argentina in the defence of their World Cup crown in 2026.
Messi to continue successful MLS stint
It makes sense for Messi to extend his stay with Inter Miami due to a mix of sporting and personal reasons.
Messi's family are believed to be settled and happy in Miami, while the Argentine has consistently produced on the pitch for the MLS franchise.
The Inter Miami captain has racked up 58 goals and 28 assists in 69 appearances since joining the club in 2023, including 24 goals and 10 assists in 30 competitive matches in 2025.
Messi provided two of those assists in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over Atlas on the opening matchday of the Leagues Cup.
The Herons will be back in Leagues Cup action on Saturday when they welcome Necaxa to Chase Stadium.
