The last quarter-finalist in the 2026 Copa Libertadores will be determined on Tuesday when Independiente del Valle host Deportes Tolima in leg two of that tie from Estadio Banco Guayaquil in Ecuador.
The Ecuadorians beat Tolima 1-0 in the first leg, and whoever advances from this tie will face Flamengo in the last eight.
Match preview
Independiente del Valle are one result away from their first Libertadores quarter-final appearance in a decade, scoring early and hanging on in the opening leg.
Joaquin Papa Monestier's men enter this contest on a 15-match winning run across all competitions with seven of those triumphs occurring on home soil.
On Tuesday, they can maintain their 100% home record in the competition this year, winning all three of their group games at Estadio Banco Guayaquil by a combined margin of 8-2.
Los Negriazules have never been eliminated from a two-leg Libertadores tie in the last 16 after winning the opening game.
Throughout the 2026 tournament, they have been among the most creative and attack-minded squads, leading the way in big chances, but at the same time they also lead in big opportunities squandered.
The club from Quito have never lost a home match against a Colombian side in the Libertadores but have only emerged victorious on one of those occasions (3-0 versus Junior FC in 2020).
The delay of leg one and the emotions from that devastating earthquake in Colombia earlier this month seemed to impact Tolima who were slow of of the gate last week, conceding the only goal after 11 minutes.
The Colombians had their chances but failed to convert, registering four efforts on target and boasting 68% of the possession, but to no avail.
That has put Sebastian Oliveros Gabriel's men in a must-win situation, and this club have never won a Libertadores knockout match before, losing 7-1 at Flamengo in their only previous round of 16 away game in this tournament.
In 2026, they have scored just once away from home in the competition, while conceding three or more times in two of their three group encounters as the visitors.
They are unbeaten in their last three competitive away games in normal time, but have won only one of their last five road matches after 90 minutes.
At the same time, El Vinotinto y Oro are unbeaten in two of their previous three Libertadores outings in Ecuador, drawing at Independiente del Valle in 2022 (2-2) and defeating CD Macara in 2020 (1-0).

Team News
Due to a cruciate ligament tear, Independiente del Valle will once again be missing Patrik Mercado, Jean Arroyo has a tibia and fibula fracture, Guido Villar is doubtful with a knee injury and Juan Cazares will not be available because of an inner ligament issue.
Aron Rodriguez had the only goal in leg one, while Aldair Quintana made four stops for his third clean sheet of the competition.
On the Tolima side, we may see Brayan Rovira on the field Tuesday despite a previous right knee injury, while Luis Sanchez should be available after suffering a similar issue.
Alvino Volpi Neto will hope to earn his second consecutive shutout away from home in this competition on Tuesday, stopping two Universitario efforts in a 0-0 draw during the group stage.
Independiente del Valle possible starting lineup:
A. Quintana; Romero, Carabajal, Schunke, Loor; Alcivar; Rodriguez, H. Quintana, Sornoza, Pata, Gonzalez
Deportes Tolima possible starting lineup:
Neto; Mosquera, A. Angulo, J. Angulo, Hernandez; Guzman, Rovira; Hurtado, Martinez, Sanchez; Sandoval
We say: Independiente del Valle 1-1 Deportes Tolima (Independiente del Valle advances 2-1 on aggregate)
Tolima are more than capable of coming back into this tie, but we don't see it being enough against the Ecuadorians, who look zoned in, resilient and incredibly disciplined.
