Sean Scannell goal sees off Bristol City

Scannell goal sees off Robins

Sean Scannell scored his first goal for Huddersfield Town as they edged out Bristol City in an uneventful match at the Galpharm Stadium this afternoon.

The former Crystal Palace forward was recalled to Simon Grayson's starting lineup due to injuries to on-loan strike duo Jermaine Beckford and James Vaughan.

He made the most of his opportunity by scoring the only goal of the game, converting from Lee Novak's square pass minutes before the break.

City striker Jonathan Stead had previously sent two efforts off target as he searched for a goal against his old employers.

Stead also tried his luck after the interval but fired hopelessly wide, while Adam Clayton squandered a good chance to double Huddersfield's lead at the other end.

West Ham United loanee Sam Baldock was denied an equaliser for the Robins when his shot was cleared off the line by Peter Clarke.

Substitute Martyn Woolford nearly snatched City a point late on but his long-range strike went over the crossbar, while Alex Smithies produced a fantastic injury-time save to keep out Stephen McManus's header as the Terriers hung on for the points.
