Huddersfield Town held to a goalless draw at home by Cardiff City

Huddersfield held at home by Cardiff

Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City drew in a tight Championship game at the John Smith's Stadium this afternoon.

Huddersfield unusually lined up in a 3-5-2 formation, and almost went in front inside 10 minutes when captain Mark Hudson, who spent five years at Cardiff, headed just wide from a corner.

Jacob Butterfield also came close for the hosts with a curled free kick, while Eoin Doyle tested Town keeper Alex Smithies with a close-range header. Hudson then again went close on 37 minutes, with a glancing header well saved by David Marshall.

Cardiff were forced to bring Matthew Connolly on for Scott Malone before half time, after the winger suffered a hamstring injury.

After the break Butterfield was again lively, a powerful effort on 53 minutes following a strong run going just wide.

Neither side was able to assert their authority effectively, and both drop a place in the league, Huddersfield to 16th, Cardiff to 17th.
