Preview: Wycombe Wanderers vs. Huddersfield Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's Championship clash between Wycombe Wanderers and Huddersfield Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Wycombe Wanderers welcome Huddersfield Town to Adams Park on Tuesday evening looking to build on their recent upturn in form.

Meanwhile, the Terriers head into their next Championship fixture on the back of three matches without success, their latest game being a 4-3 defeat against Stoke City at the weekend.

A seven-match losing streak at the beginning of the season was enough for most people to write off Wycombe's chances of survival in the Championship.

However, Gareth Ainsworth has orchestrated a remarkable turnaround at Adams Park with his side having collected eight points from their last five outings.

Although the Chairboys still sit in the bottom three, they are now just one point away from safety and have proven their resoluteness in the defensive third.

Keeping a clean sheet against Brentford at the weekend did not go unnoticed, but this team have now only conceded 13 goals in their 10 most recent matches.

As the minnows of the second tier, that is an outstanding return, and Ainsworth will feel that the chance is there to add to their six goals for the season on Tuesday night.

Huddersfield have been the Jekyll and Hyde side of the Championship this season, arguably leaving them likely to bounce back from a three-match winless streak.

Nevertheless, Carlos Corberan would have been furious with his team's defensive effort against Stoke with four goals being conceded during a 26-minute period.

That capitulation ultimately cost the Terriers come the full-time whistle, and Corberan must now work to ensure that there is no repeat performance in Buckinghamshire.

On the plus side, Isaac Mbenza continued his recent form in the Potteries, taking his return to two goals and two assists from his last 262 minutes of football.

Team News

Corberan could hand a recall to defender Christopher Schindler, potentially in place of Richard Stearman.

With Ben Hamer currently self-isolating, Manchester United loanee Joel Pereira is expected to continue between the sticks.

Despite the short turnaround, Ainsworth may select the same XI which started the game against Brentford.

Garath McCleary is pushing for his first start in midfield after making two substitute appearances since his arrival earlier this month.

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Allsopp; Grimmer, Knight, Stewart, Jacobson; Wheeler, Gape, Thompson; Horgan; Kashket, Akinfenwa

Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup:
Pereira; Duhaney, Schindler, Sarr, Toffolo; Eiting, Hogg, O'Brien; Mbenza, Campbell, Koroma

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 1-1 Huddersfield Town

Now that Wycombe have got themselves back into contention with the teams above them, they must start turning draws into victories. However, their opponents will also view this as an opportunity to get back on track, and a hard-fought contest could end in a draw.
