Preview: Sheffield Wednesday vs. Huddersfield Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Championship clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Sheffield Wednesday play host to Huddersfield Town on Wednesday evening sitting seven points adrift of safety in the Championship relegation zone.

While Huddersfield remain in trouble at the wrong end of the table, a three-match unbeaten streak has moved the Terriers clear of the bottom three.

When Darren Moore made the decision to leave Doncaster Rovers for Sheffield Wednesday, he was aware of the risks involved when taking over a relegation-threatened side.

While the Owls have shown signs of life under the guidance of the new arrival, three successive defeats have left the club seven points adrift of safety.

Wednesday's match in hand could prove crucial come the end of the campaign, but Moore must first look to build on the positives taken from the 2-1 defeat against leaders Norwich City.

The Yorkshire giants were left feeling disappointed that they failed to claim points from the best team in the league, arguably a sign that they are making progress under Moore.

Nevertheless, only points on the board will be deemed acceptable at this stage of the campaign, and Wednesday are looking to avoid an eighth straight defeat on Wednesday night.

There have been times this season when Huddersfield have looked odds-on favourites to be dragged closer to the dropzone, form which has led to criticism of Carlos Corberan.

However, the Terriers have made a habit of following poor periods of form with necessary revivals, the same trend continuing with a 1-0 victory away at Queens Park Rangers.

With a nine-point advantage having been established over 22nd-placed Rotherham United, Corberan will feel that Huddersfield are within touching distance of effectively sealing their place in the second tier for another 12 months.

Although a setback against one of their rivals would change that belief, Huddersfield are motivated to keep three successive clean sheets for the first time this season.

Team News

Moore is expected to hand a recall to Julian Borner, who sat out the Norwich fixture through suspension.

Joey Pelupessy should keep his place ahead of Liam Shaw, while Callum Paterson could return in the final third.

Barring any late fitness issues, Corberan is likely to stick with the team which impressed at QPR.

Despite playing 90 minutes on his return from injury, Jonathan Hogg is in line to make his second start in quick succession.

Sheffield Wednesday possible starting lineup:
Westwood; Hutchinson, Lees, Borner; Harris, Pelupessy, Bannan, Penney; Reach, Windass, Rhodes

Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup:
Schofield; Edmonds-Green, Keogh, Sarr; Pipa, Bacuna, Hogg, Rowe; O'Brien; Campbell, Mbenza

We say: Sheffield Wednesday 0-1 Huddersfield Town

While Wednesday have impressed at times since Moore's arrival, it is becoming increasing difficult to get points on the board. With that in mind, we think that the visitors will battle their way to a narrow win over the Owls, a result which would put the club on the brink of safety.
