Hearts have been docked two points in the Scottish League Cup and fined for fielding an ineligible player during the encounter with Cove Rangers.
Last week's match at Balmoral Stadium, home of the Highland League outfit, ended in a 2-1 victory for the visitors.
However, the contract of 19-year-old midfielder Andrew Irving, who came on in the 65th minute, had not been registered correctly.
The incident was referred to a disciplinary hearing on Monday where Hearts were charged and subsequently deducted two points from their League Cup first-round group-stage tally.
Hearts - who had issued an apology after the incident last week declaring their "embarrassment" - have also been fined £10,000, although £8,000 of that has been suspended until the end of 2019-20 season.
The Edinburgh side are now three points adrift of Group C leaders Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Cowdenbeath, both of whom they will face in their final two matches.
